Midwest Foot and Ankle Clinics treats a wide spectrum of foot and ankle conditions, including ankle sprains, work, and sports-related foot and ankle injuries, diabetic foot infections, hammertoe, arthritic foot and ankle problems, bunions, flat feet, athlete’s foot, fungal toenails, ankle instability, neuroma, neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, calluses, Achilles tendonitis, warts, and foot fractures.

The skilled podiatric group offers wound care and limb salvage, custom orthotics, on-site ultrasound and X-rays, arterial vascular testing, Zimmer shockwave therapy, and diabetic treatments and evaluations. In addition providers at the practice offer sports medicine and regenerative medicine services, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy and stem cell products. Surgical procedures are performed at affiliated hospital locations and surgical centers.

Khalid Husain, DPM

Khalid Husain, DPM, is an enthusiastic and compassionate podiatric physician serving men, women, and children at Midwest Foot and Ankle Clinics, with three locations in Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

For nearly two decades, Dr. Husain has remained devoted to the field of podiatry. He’s the dedicated founder of Midwest Foot & Ankle Clinics.

Dr. Husain specializes in diabetic foot management and limb salvage. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, Illinois, and received his doctoral degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Husain completed extensive medical fellowship training from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio — the leading program in the country for diabetic foot medicine. He concluded his surgical residency at the Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, and the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois.

Active in his field, Dr. Husain holds numerous medical leadership roles. He’s an avid researcher and lecturer, the co-medical director of the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and the education committee chair of the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons.

Dr. Husain was previously on the board of directors for the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, and he is a former clinical faculty member of Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, both in North Chicago, Illinois.

Family is a priority for Dr. Husain, and he enjoys spending time with his wife Yasmeen and their three children. Born and raised in the Chicago area, Dr. Husain savors the uniqueness, beauty, and character of the city he calls home.

Gene Choi, DPM

Warmhearted and cheerful podiatric physician Gene Choi, DPM, enjoys providing quality, personalized podiatric care for men, women, and children at Midwest Foot and Ankle Clinics, with three locations in Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Choi was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. During high school, his passion for medicine ignited when he worked as a patient care technician in the emergency department at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Illinois. He continued to work in the emergency department for the next 10 years while completing his education.

Dr. Choi finished his Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Near West Side neighborhood, and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Choi completed a three-year surgical residency with additional credentials in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Rush University Medical Center on the Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois. During his third year of training, Dr. Choi was chosen by his peers and faculty to serve as chief resident. He also trained under faculty from Rush University, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and the University of Chicago in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

To share his knowledge and assist others in his field, Dr. Choi continues to be a part of the teaching faculty for the Rush residents at NorthShore University Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Choi treats all conditions related to the foot and ankle, from hammertoes and bunions to complex reconstructive surgery. He is highly knowledgeable in sports medicine, trauma and wound care, and limb salvage.

Dr. Choi has a wealth of diverse experience and skills and practices evidence-based medicine. He treats the whole person and knows that the body is comprised of interconnected systems working together.

For many years, Dr. Choi has been actively involved in his local community and helps others with foot screenings and volunteering in the medical tent at the Chicago marathon. Away from the podiatric office, Dr. Choi is an avid motorsports fan and loves watching movies, reading, playing sports, and traveling to new places.

Jennifer Kirchens, DPM

Personable and attentive podiatric physician Jennifer Kirchens, is a native of Chicago. She was born and raised on the Southwest Side of the city. Dr. Kirchens is renowned for her gentle and caring nature and her affinity for helping others enhance health, wellness, and quality of life. Since 2004, she has provided first-class personalized podiatric care at Midwest Foot and Ankle Clinics with three offices in Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Kirchens graduated cum laude in 1997 with her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. She graduated cum laude with her medical degree in 2001 from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, in North Chicago, Illinois. She completed a three year surgical residency at the Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Her first year of residency was spent caring for our veterans at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. Her third year of surgical training focused on limb salvage and reconstruction with the extensive use of external fixation.

Dr. Kirchens has special interests in diabetic foot care, limb salvage, wound care, sports-related injuries, and general podiatric care. Dr. Kirchens treats a myriad of foot and ankle conditions, including Achilles tendonitis, arthritis, corns and calluses, diabetic feet, flat feet, foot fracture, neuroma, neuropathy, and bunions. She provides medications, surgery when needed, healthy lifestyle changes, regenerative medicine including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy and stem cell therapy, shockwave therapy, and more.

Dr. Kirchens is married to her college sweetheart. They have a son and boy/girl twins. She is an avid animal lover and has one dog, Riley. Dr. Kirchens enjoys biking and has taken part in several charity bike rides for the Illinois Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Natalie Zemela, DPM

Kind and personable podiatric physician Natalie Zemela, DPM, is focused on providing exceptional quality of care that is tailored for each and every one of her patients. She treats, men, women, and children at the Midwest Foot and Ankle Clinics, with three locations in Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Zemela was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Neuroscience from Lake Forest College, in Lake Forest, Illinois, and received her doctoral degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.

She completed her residency with additional credentials in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois and she also treated our veterans at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois. Dr. Zemela treats a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions such as diabetic foot care, limb salvage, wound care, hammertoes, bunions, neuromas, painful corns and calluses, sports medicine, arthritis, flat feet and trauma. She uses evidence base medicine for each patient in a personalized way. She is also fluent in Polish.

In her free time, Dr. Zemela enjoys spending time outdoors, skiing, traveling, going to hockey games, reading, cooking, and gardening. She also loves to volunteer at a variety of events. She is involved in charity for causes close to her heart: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
